Webinar: From Curb to Community: Chipping Away Wildfire Risk

Defensible space requirements are only effective when residents can actually act on them — and one of the biggest barriers is what to do with the material once it’s cut.

Community chipping programs are helping solve that problem. By bringing chipping services directly to neighborhoods, communities are clearing fuel loads faster, at scale, and with dramatically higher participation than traditional outreach alone. In this webinar, officials from the City of Orinda and Marin Fire Safe share what they’ve built, what they’ve learned, and how other agencies can get started.

  • How departments are structuring community chipping programs — scheduling, staffing, logistics
  • On-demand chipping: what it looks like and whether it fits your jurisdiction
  • Innovation and experimentation: how to keep testing new ideas and improving your program
  • Grant funding for chipping programs — where the money is and how to remove the friction
  • Real outcomes from the field: participation rates, fuel reduction, resident

Residents may experience temporary traffic delays, lane restrictions, and limited access in work areas during construction. Please use caution when driving near crews and equipment, follow all posted traffic control signs, and allow extra travel time when possible.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed. Updates will be posted as needed.”
